This article stems from the growing relevance that the phenomenon of street harassment has taken both in Chile and in a growing number of countries (Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, Nicaragua, Mexico, United States, Canada, England, Belgium, Egypt, among others), and from the necessity of systematize a suitable frame for the concept, both for the scientific analysis as to promote public policies and private interventions for it reduction and prevention. Therefore, these article aims therefore to theorize, based on a variety of definitions existing in the scientific literature, a concept of street sexual harassment considering five analytical dimensions: the sexual connotation, the interaction between strangers, its occurrence on the public space, the potential to generate discomfort and its unidirectionality. This, in turn, allows to problematize the phenomenon from its specific features with respect to other forms of gender violence, and to propose a reflection on its social relevance as a source of conflict, restriction of well-being and gender inequality.Este artículo nace de la creciente relevancia que el fenómeno del acoso sexual callejero ha tomado en Chile y en un número creciente de otros países (Perú, Argentina, Ecuador, Brasil, Nicaragua, México Estados Unidos, Canadá, Inglaterra, Bélgica, Egipto, entre otros), y de la necesidad de sistematizar una definición para un adecuado encuadre del concepto tanto para el análisis científico, como para promover políticas públicas e intervenciones privadas dirigidas a su reducción y prevención. Es por estas razones que el presente artículo tiene por objetivo teorizar, a partir de las definiciones existentes en la literatura, un concepto de acoso sexual callejero considerando cinco dimensiones analíticas: la connotación sexual, la interacción entre desconocidos, su ocurrencia en un espacio público, el potencial de generar malestar y su unidireccionalidad. Esto, a la vez, permite problematizar el fenómeno desde sus especificidades con respecto de otras formas de violencia de género y reflexionar sobre su relevancia social como fuente de conflicto, malestar y desigualdad de género.
