Life history has been considered an important research technique in the field of social science from its first formulations in the beginning of the 20th century. In this paper I discuss the possibilities of deepening the use of life history with the objective to apply it as a method rather than a mere technique. The ideas explored here are inspired by some authors, particularly, Roger Bastide and Florestan Fernandes, who influenced the development of the sociological research in the inception of the University of São Paulo (Brazil) in the 1940's.    Desde su formulación hasta nuestros días, la historia de vida ha sido utilizada como una técnica de investigación importante en el campo de las ciencias sociales. En este artículo reflexiono sobre las posibilidades de profundización de la historia de vida con el objetivo de aplicarla como un método y no como una simple técnica. Las ideas exploradas aquí son inspiradas por algunos autores que influenciaron el desarrollo de la investigación sociológica en los principios de la Universidad de Sao Paulo (Brasil), a partir de los años 40 del siglo pasado, particularmente, Roger Bastide y Florestan Fernandes.
