The Constitution of Cadiz of 1812 made possible the transfer of the liberalism’s ideas to the Hispanic world; tainting public law and the institutional architecture of the new Nation-States, in an enduring way. In the case of Chile, in spite of the brief validity of the Constitution in Chile, its influence is big and can be perceived even today. In recent years, coinciding with the Bicentennial of the Constitution of Cadiz, interesting debates have taken place about its impact on Hispanic American constitutional law in the XIXth century and up until the present time. Issues like citizenship, federalism or human rights, among many others, have given birth to respective research paths. In this perspective, the article reviews the road already covered towards a fair appraisal of the political legacy of Cadiz, in the conformation of republican States in America.La Constitución de Cádiz de 1812 facilitó la transferencia de los ideales del liberalismo al mundo hispánico, permeando el derecho público y la arquitectura institucional de los nuevos Estados, de forma perdurable. En el caso chileno, a pesar de la escasa vigencia de la Carta en el país, su influencia en los textos constitucionales es notable y puede percibirse hasta el día de hoy. En los años recientes, coincidiendo con el Bicentenario de la Carta de Cádiz, se han abierto interesantes debates sobre su impacto en el constitucionalismo americano del siglo XIX y aún hacia el presente. Cuestiones de ciudadanía, federalismo o derechos humanos, entre muchas otras, han generado otros tantos derroteros de investigación. En la perspectiva señalada, el presente trabajo pasa revista al camino recorrido hacia la valorización del legado político de Cádiz, en la conformación de Estados republicanos en América.
