The definition of a regime for Antarctic mineral resources has begun to be discussed both among the Consultative Parties to the 1959 Treaty and, from a more general point of view, between third countries and other media interested in the problem. Although many studies indicate that the exploitation of these resources will not be as soon as is usually believed, nor will it perhaps have an economic interest or a significant return, an expectation has been generated around this matter anyway. It is on this basis that various alternatives and options have been proposed, ranging from the nature of the Antarctic system to the consideration of specific regimes to regulate this activity. Some basic options are discussed in this paper in light of what appear to be the prevailing trends.La definición de un régimen para los recursos  minerales antárticos ha comenzado a discutirse tanto entre las Partes Consultivas del Tratado de 1959 como, desde un punto de vista más general, entre terceros países y otros medios interesados en el problema. Si bien muchos estudios indican que la explotación de ésos recursos no será tan próxima como suele creerse, ni quizás tendrá un interés económico o un rendimiento importante, se ha generado de todos modos una cierta expectación en torno a esta materia, como sucediera en su momento respecto de los recursos minerales de los fondos marinos. Sobre esta base es que se han comenzado a plantear diversas alternativas y opciones, que van desde la naturaleza del sistema antártico hasta la consideración de regímenes específicos para regular esta actividad. Este artículo discutirá algunas opciones básicas a la luz de las que parecen, ser las tendencias prevalecientes.
