The economic and political signs increasingly point to the world epicenter moving to Asia Pacific, where the most dynamic economies in the international arena have developed in recent years. Latin America has the historical possibility of joining, adapting and benefiting from this trend. For our region to position itself in this line and thus get out of lethargy, a radical change of attitude is necessary, especially of the political and business elite, which until now have been unable to mobilize with greater imagination and audacity in order to overcome the marginality of the region. In this article the most relevant features of a strategic and concrete nature of the relationship between both regions are pointed out, and what should be, in our understanding, the contribution of Chile given its geographical location, the characteristics of its development model and its open foreign policy to the world.Las señales económicas y políticas apuntan cada vez con mayor contundencia a que el epicentro mundial se traslada al Asia Pacífico, donde se han desarrollado las economías más dinámicas del concierto internacional en los últimos años. Latinoamérica tiene la posibilidad histórica de sumarse, adecuarse y beneficiarse de esta tendencia. Para que nuestra región se posicione en esta línea y consiga así salir del letargo, es necesario un cambio radical de actitud, especialmente de la élite política y empresarial, que hasta ahora ha sido incapaz de movilizarse con mayor imaginación y audacia en pos de superar la marginalidad de la región. En este artículo se señalan los rasgos más relevantes de carácter estratégico y concreto de la relación de ambas regiones, y cuál debería ser, a nuestro entender, la contribución de Chile dada su posición geográfica, las características de su modelo de desarrollo y su política exterior abierta al mundo.
