| dc.description | Petronila Angélica Gómez, maestra normalista y directora de Fémina, la primera publicación feminista dominicana, puede ser considerada como una de las pioneras del feminismo en su país. A través de las páginas de Fémina, mostró a su audiencia su pensamiento acerca del papel de la mujer dentro de la sociedad dominicana. Promovió la creación de la primera organización feminista (el Comité Central Feminista Dominicano, en 1926), así como el debate en torno a la necesidad de actuar frente a la ocupación norteamericana de su país, y estableció lazos con otras organizaciones internacionales. Fémina representa, por tanto, uno de los más tempranos ejemplos de la participación de las mujeres en los campos intelectuales de América Latina y el Caribe, poniendo de relieve la importancia del asociacionismo internacional y la conciencia transnacional que caracterizó a muchas mujeres latinoamericanas de la época. | es-ES |
| dc.description | Petronila Angélica Gómez, school teacher and director of Fémina, the first feminist magazine in the Dominican Republic, can be considered one the pioneers in the development of feminism in her country. Through this magazine, she showcased her ideas about the role of women within Dominican society, promoted the creation of the first feminist organization in the country (the Dominican Feminist Central Committee in 1926), and debated the need to act against the invasion of the Dominican Republic by US Marines. Being part of an international network, Fémina represents one of the earliest examples of the participation of women in the intellectual fields in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting the importance of international associations and transnational consciousness that characterized many Latin American women of the time. | en-US |
