| dc.description | In Creative Understanding, Roberto Torretti lays out a classification of possible relationships between physical theories by distinguishing four big types of relationships between two given theories considered in diachronic perspective: specialization, extension, reformulation, and substitution (or replacement). Within the structuralist metatheory, this author and others also have propounded in several writings a diachronic typology of intertheoretical relations. Leaving besides differences of detail, both typologies reveal remarkable coincidences, although the structuralist typology is formally more precise than Torretti’s. However, in the last portion of this article, I discuss a further type of intertheoretical relation in diachronic perspective, which, until recently, had not been considered by any approach in philosophy of science: what I call “crystallization” and is exemplified by the development of thermodynamics in the 19th century. | en-US |
| dc.description | En Creative Understanding, Roberto Torretti propone una clasificación de las posibles relaciones entre teorías físicas, distinguiendo cuatro grandes tipos de relaciones entre dos teorías dadas, consideradas en perspectiva diacrónica: especialización, extensión, reformulación y sustitución (o suplantación). Dentro de la metateoría estructuralista, este autor y otros también han propuesto en diversos escritos una tipología diacrónica de relaciones interteóricas. Las dos tipologías, más allá de diferencias de detalle, revelan notables puntos de coincidencia, si bien la tipología estructuralista es formalmente más precisa que la torrettiana. En la última parte de este artículo, sin embargo, se discute un tipo adicional de relación interteórica en perspectiva diacrónica, que hasta hace poco no había sido considerada por ningún enfoque en filosofía de la ciencia: lo que el autor denomina “cristalización” y que queda ejemplificada por el desarrollo de la termodinámica en el siglo XIX. | es-ES |
