In this article we examine the evolution of a new technical cycle that meant the reinvention and continuity of the nitrate cycle in the areas of Toco and Tocopilla, with the hegemony of Tarapaca totally decentred in the world of nitrate. We studied the particularities of the technical system that constituted Guggenheim, located at first in the copper mine of Chuquicamata and in the thermoelectric plant of Tocopilla. We analyse the integral derivations of this new system that inaugurated a new cycle that had strong economic, corporate, technological and social impacts in the province of Tocopilla until today. We also examine the evolution of the various capitalist movements by the hand of some families who disputed the ownership of natural resources to participate in the world nitrate market and its numerous derivatives.En este artículo examinamos la evolución de un nuevo ciclo técnico que significó la reinvención y continuidad del ciclo del nitrato en el área de Toco y Tocopilla, siendo la hegemonía de Tarapacá totalmente descentrada en el mundo del salitre; estudiamos las particularidades del sistema técnico que constituyó la firma Guggenheim, ubicada, en primera instancia, en la mina de cobre de Chuquicamata y en la termoeléctrica de Tocopilla. Analizamos las derivaciones integrales de este nuevo sistema que inauguró un nuevo ciclo que tuvo fuertes impactos económicos, corporativos, tecnológicos y sociales en la provincia de Tocopilla hasta la actualidad. También exploramos la evolución de las diversas maniobras capitalistas de la mano de algunas familias que disputaron la propiedad de los recursos naturales para participar en el mercado mundial del nitrato y sus numerosos derivados.
