The text investigates how the emerging frontier problem, associated with the republics from the 19th century is recorded from the indigenous perspective. The conception of the frontier for the Indians was, of course, not only distinct but epistemologically contrary to the idea of border in the republics. The border was forced to change, in a way, adapted to the Andean communities, to their daily demands and practices.El texto indaga en cómo se registraría, desde la perspectiva indígena, la emergente problemática fronteriza asociada a las repúblicas a partir del siglo XIX. La concepción de frontera para los indígenas fue, por cierto, no solo distinta, sino epistemológicamente contraria. Este artículo busca mostrar cómo la frontera ha debido, en cierto modo, adaptarse a las comunidades andinas, a sus demandas y prácticas cotidianas, viendo las tensiones y contradicciones en las formas de marcar y construir territorialidades a partir de registros heterogéneos como pueden ser las apachetas y los hitos fronterizos.
