| dc.description | In the framework of the academic discussion on urbanization and the recent urban growth trends of the main Chilean cities, this paper aims to analyze and characterize the case of the Greater Valparaiso given its metropolitan status and its relevance in the national context. In order to do so, satellite images, building permits and work commutation data are used in order to delimit its territorial extension and functional relationships, characterizing the growth experienced by this metropolitan area between 1992 and 2012. The main conclusions obtained from this analysis show that Great Valparaíso experiences multiple urban growth trends characterized by simultaneous processes of diffusion and compaction of its urbanization, generating a com-fuse urban structure, as in other Latin American cities. | en-US |
| dc.description | En el marco de la discusión académica acerca de la urbanización y las tendencias recientes de crecimiento urbano de las principales ciudades chilenas, este trabajo tiene como propósito analizar y caracterizar el caso del Gran Valparaíso dada su condición metropolitana y su relevancia en el contexto nacional. Para ello se utilizan imágenes satelitales, permisos de edificación y datos de conmutación laboral, con el objetivo de delimitar su extensión territorial y sus relaciones funcionales, caracterizando el crecimiento experimentado por esta área metropolitana entre 1992 y 2012. Las principales conclusiones obtenidas de dicho análisis muestran que el Gran Valparaíso experimenta tendencias múltiples de crecimiento urbano que se caracterizan por procesos simultáneos de difusión y compactación de su urbanización, generando una estructura urbana com-fusa, al igual que otras ciudades latinoamericanas. | es-ES |
