| dc.description | This article unpacks a theme rarely studied in historiography;the life of the Chilean army during the Chincha Islands War(1865-1866) and the War of the Pacific (1879-1884). First, theobjective is to answer questions about this military body usingthe perspective of troop distribution. Second, this study analyzeschanges of the army’s troops within the National Guard.Lastly, the recruitment process in the beginning of 1879 is alsooutlined. Based on the perspective of the troops, Chile did notprepare for a specific war against Peru and Bolivia. Howeveras a country, implicit development of an expansionism —botheconomic and social— existed in Antofagasta.Keywords: Chilean Army, Pacific War, military training, troop’sstrength. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este artículo aborda un tema poco estudiado por la historiografía:la vida del Ejército de Chile entre la Guerra con España(1865-1866) y la Guerra del Pacífico (1879-1884). Tiene por objetoresponder a la pregunta de si esta entidad castrense, desdela perspectiva de su dotación de tropas, se preparó militarmentepara el segundo de tales conflictos. Además del Ejércitomismo, se revisa la evolución de las tropas en la GuardiaNacional. Por último, se esboza el proceso de reclutamiento acomienzos de 1879. Se plantea que, desde la perspectiva delas tropas, Chile no se preparó para una guerra específica, encontra del Perú y Bolivia.
