The paper analyses the diffusion of the truck and the construction of roads in the Atacama Puna (1930-1980) through the relation of continuity or discontinuity established with the traditional mule transport during the Colonial period. The analysis proceeds in three steps. First, the arrival of the truck and the dislocation of the structuring triad grass-animals-transport - Is verified the end of the traditional muleteer caravans, the arrival of engine and how the truck takes off agriculture of the equation. Secondly, the local process of appropriation of the truck, the tracks that it follows, the systems that assemble and the modes in which the truck restores the logic of mule transport and freight that the war and the railways had suspended during the last 19th century. Third, and lastly, the late appearance of roadway Institution and the roads machinery, the State and the frontier, the clandestine and outdoor character of mule transport across the Cordillera.Keywords: truck, viality, Atacama Desert, muleteer, roadsEl artículo estudia la difusión del camión y la construcción de caminos en la Puna de Atacama (1930-1980) a través de la relación de continuidad o discontinuidad que se establece con la arriería mular característica del período colonial atacameño. El análisis procede en tres tiempos. Primero, la llegada del camión y la dislocación de la tríada estructurante pasto-animal-transporte; se constata el ocaso arriero, se da cuenta del arribo del motor y de cómo el camión sustrae la agricultura al transporte. Segundo, el proceso de apropiación local del camión, las huellas que utiliza, los sistemas que ensambla y el modo en el que restituye las lógicas de arriería y flete que la guerra y los ferrocarriles suspenden desde el último tercio del siglo XIX.
