| dc.description | This work is framed within a line of investigation dedicated to the study of “the world of the poor” in the city of Córdoba, Argentina, between 1870 and 1930. It seeks to reconstruct how they experienced the great transformations of the time, especially the intense process of modernisation, the rapid urbanisation, the growing state institutionalisation, and the continuous economic growth.In that context, the objective of this study is to advance in the reconstruction of the images, and their underlying conceptions, of beggars and mendicity present in Córdoba at the turn of the 20 th century, with an emphasis on those images and conceptions going around in the local press.Among the main conclusions, it is established that mendicity was basically conceived of as a personal and moral issue. However, and in spite of the persistence of that conception in the entire period, at the end of it, there started to emerge new perspectives and conceptions, more nuanced and complex, which aimed at a social causality and, therefore, a collective responsibility in the phenomenon of mendicity.Keywords: poor, mendicity, social history, Argentina, 1870/1920 | en-US |
| dc.description | Este trabajo participa de una línea de investigación dedicada al estudio del “mundo de los pobres” en la ciudad de Córdo ba (Argentina), entre 1870 y 1930, que pretende reconstruir cómo ellos experimentaron las grandes transformaciones de esa época, en especial el intenso proceso de modernización, la veloz urbanización, la creciente institucionalización estatal y el sostenido crecimiento económico.En ese marco, este trabajo tiene como objetivo avanzar en la reconstrucción de las imágenes, y de las concepciones subyacentes a ellas, de los mendigos y de la mendicidad vigentes en Córdoba en el giro del siglo XIX al XX, poniendo énfasis en las circuladas a través de la prensa local.Entre las principales conclusiones se establece que la mendicidad era concebida básicamente como una cuestión personal y moral. Sin embargo, pese a la persistencia de esa concepción durante todo el período, hacia finales del mismo comenzaron a emerger novedosas miradas y concepciones, más matizadas y complejas, que apuntaban a una causalidad social y, por consiguiente, a una responsabilidad colectiva en el fenómeno de la mendicidad.Palabras clave: pobres, mendicidad, historia social, Argentina, 1870/1920. | es-ES |
