This article analyzes both the self-representation and the actionsdeveloped by Chilean teachers during the period of themilitary dictatorship (1973-1990) and the meaningful educationalreforms that took place during that time. This analysis focuseson the development and characteristics of the teachers’organizations before 1973, and offers a critical perspectiveregarding the impact of this period on the current self-perceptionof teachers, who as part of the professional, middleclass are caught in a conflict between their own roles and theexpectations of Chile’s contemporary society.Keywords: Chile, History, Memory, Teachers, Education.El artículo analiza la representación de sí mismos ylas acciones desarrolladas por los docentes chilenos duranteel período dictatorial y las profundas reformas realizadas a laeducación chilena en dicho período (1973-1990).
