Th is article is a brief refl ection on the social use of an industrial archeology, and the contradictions and problems related to its patrimonialization. The historical mining site of Capote is taken as a case study. We believe that the broadening of the scope and limits of research on the recent past -an historical archeology of capitalism in Chile-, is closely linked to improved hertiage policies in this country, which have opened new ways of exploring the past (and the present). Notwithstanding, there are underexplored dimensions of this new situation: the role played by archaeological research as yet another historical event of the site; the possible monopolization archaeological narratives may have on future interpretations; and the transformations broght by the intervention not only of a specifi c space but also of its archaeological time.Key words: Historical Archaeology, Industry, Time, Heritage.El presente artículo es una refl exión sobre el uso social de una arqueología industrial, y sobre las contradicciones y problemas referentes a la necesidad de patrimonializarla, tomando como ejemplo el asentamiento minero histórico de Capote. Consideramos que el perfeccionamiento de los alcances y límites de los estudios del pasado reciente, o de una arqueología del capitalismo en Chile, se encuentran unidos con el impulso y mejoramiento de las políticas patrimoniales, las cuales han abierto nuevas vías de exploración del pasado (y del presente). Existiría a nuestro entender una dimensión no explicitada de esta situación: el rol de la investigación arqueológica como otro evento histórico del sitio, la eventual monopolización sobre futuras interpretaciones y las transformaciones de la intervención no sólo de un espacio específi co, sino que también de su tiempo arqueológico.Palabras clave: Arqueología Histórica, Industria, Tiempo, Patrimonio.
