| dc.description | Este artículo analiza la actividad socioeconómica de la colectividad alemana de Valparaíso, en perspectiva histórica, comenzando a mediados del siglo XIX, cuando la actividad económica en Valparaíso experimentó un significativo cambio, insertándose en el proceso capitalista global, hasta 1930 cuando termina el ciclo de desarrollo al alero de la exportación salitrera y se produce la crisis bursátil en los Estados Unidos que impactó fuertemente en la economía chilena que se reorientó a un desarrollo proteccionista privilegiando la industria sustitutiva de importaciones. El artículo da cuenta que los alemanes de Valparaíso constituyen parte importante de la elite económica de la ciudad y cuentan con el apoyo institucional apropiado para participar en el comercio internacional disfrutando de amplias ventajas frente a otras naciones menos favorecidas, como es el caso de bancos, navieras, compañías de seguros, presencia permanente de buques de guerra de sus naciones, etc. Igualmente, supieron generar instituciones sociales y culturales que fortalecieron al grupo, facilitando su estadía, el proceso de adaptación e integración para algunos, como también para otros les permitió custodiar sus valores y evitar los vínculos con la sociedad receptora.Palabras clave: alemanes, Valparaíso, integración socioeconómica. | es-ES |
| dc.description | This article examines the socio-economic activity of the German collectivity of Valparaiso, in historical perspective, beginning in the mid-19th century, when the economic activity in Valparaíso experienced a significant shift by becoming part of the global capitalist process, until 1930 when the development cycle based on nitrate exports ends. The article gives account of the important part that Valparaiso Germans played in the economic elite of the city and of the institutional support that they received to participate in international trade, enjoying large advantages over other less-favoured nations. Also, they developed social and cultural institutions that strengthened their group and facilitated their stay, the process of adaptation and integration for some; for others, these institutions allowed them to guard their values and avoid relations with the host society.Keywords: Germans, Valparaiso, socio-economic integration. | en-US |
