dc.descriptionTwelve taxa of chondrichthyan fossils from strata assigned to the Upper Pliocene of the Horcón Formation, Valparaiso region, central Chile, are described and prior records paleobiogeography and paleoenvironmental implications are discussed. The fauna includes Callorhinchus sp., Heterodontus sp., Carcharodon carcharias, Isurus oxyrinchus, Galeorhinus galeus, Carcharhinus brachyurus, Hexanchus griseus, Squatina sp., Pristiophorus sp., Rajidae, Dasyatidae and Myliobatidae. This is one of the most diverse chondrichthyan associations of the Late Neogene of Chile and the rest of South America.
