The new building codes tend to includevehicle impacts as part of the accidentalactions to be considered. Most ofthese codes use equivalent static loadto represent the effects of the impactagainst the structure. In this paper abibliographical review of the indicationsis performed as provided by some of themost representative buildings codes inthe world relating to impacts caused byvehicles. In particular we will focus onimpacts caused by horizontal actionson structures, like car crashes againstparking columns. We will show that theindications provided by the differentstandards studied are widely differenteach other and that there is not a clearlyagreed procedure allowing the assessmentof the effects of a vehicle impact throughan equivalent static load. Keywords: Building codes & standards, impact, car parks, equivalent static load.en-US
