| dc.description | Se presentan y discuten brevemente elementos neotectonicos de Cuba y la sismicidad de su Unidad Neotectonica Occidental. Cuba es un bloque (o microplaca) localizada desde al menos el Eoceno Superior en la parte meridional de la placa Norteamerica. La Unidad Occidental esta limitada por tres zonas de fallas activas (Nortecubana, Surcubana y Cauto-Nipe) y se caracteriza por el tipo de sismicidad de interior de placas. Los terremotos son de Ms<7,0, se producen con largos periodos de repeticion y se asocian con un mecanismo oscilatorio en la vertical de bloques. Se exponen algunas valoraciones acerca de la amenaza geologica por terremotos a que esta sometido el territorio, destacando las intersecciones de fallas como las zonas mas inestables. | es-ES |
| dc.description | Neotectonic elements and seismicity of the Cuban Western Neotectonic Unit are presented and briefly discussed. Cuba is a block (or microplate) located in the southern part of North America plate at least since the Upper Eocene. The tectonic boundaries of the Western Neotectonic Unit are three fault zones (Nortecubana, Surcubana and Cauto-Nipe). This unit is characterized by intraplate seismicity with Ms<7,0 and large recurrence periods. Some considerations about the seismic hazard with geological implications for the territory are also shown. The fault intersections are the most unstable areas. | en-US |
