Structuralism as a research method always starts by assuming the existence of a system of relationships that underlies sociocultural phenomena and that makes possible the significance of these: Thus, it was transformed during a large part of the 20th century into a qualitative tool to describe diverse problems in the field of human sciences. However, it is also known that the assumption of the method in question, by the eidetic depth that it reaches, has a philosophical talent that is not negligible. In this way, we must ask ourselves about the consequences that the philosophical root of structuralism has for its methodological application, especially if we consider that proposals within philosophy, for the most part, offer an abstract basis of reality that is very difficult to identify empirically. Thus, the presented research seeks to expose how the structuralist method, despite of having a great descriptive power, inevitably ends in an inconclusive analysis, since its hypothesis about the existence of a fundamental structure that explains its phenomena, being a philosophical principle, never ends up being corroborated.El estructuralismo como método de investigación siempre parte suponiendo la existencia de un sistema de relaciones que subyace a los fenómenos socio- culturales y que posibilita la significación de éstos. Así, pasó a transformarse durante gran parte del siglo XX en una herramienta cualitativa para describir problemas de diversa índole en el ámbito de las ciencias humanas. No obstante, también es sabido que el supuesto del método en cuestión, por la profundidad eidética que alcanza, tiene un talante filosófico para nada desdeñable. De esta forma, cabe preguntarse por las consecuencias que la raíz filosófica del estructuralismo tiene para su aplicación metodológica, sobre todo si consideramos que las propuestas al interior de la filosofía, en su mayoría, ofrecen un fundamento abstracto de lo real que es muy difícil de identificar empíricamente. Así pues, la investigación que se presenta busca exponer como el método estructuralista, a pesar de tener un gran poder descriptivo, termina inevitablemente en un análisis inconcluso, pues su hipótesis en torno a la existencia de una estructura fundamental que explica sus fenómenos, al ser un principio filosófico, nunca termina de ser corroborada.
