Objective: To determine the prevalence of tabaquism among Pedagogy in Physical Education students in the city of Chillán, Chile. Methodology: The research has a non-experimental tran-sactional descriptive design. The sample corresponds to 272 students of Pedagogy in Physical Education of the Bio-Bio University, Pedro de Valdivia University and Adventist University of Chile, separated into 186 men and 85 women, with mean age of onset of smoking corresponding to 17 ± 10 years. The data collection instrument used was extracted from the smoking section of the National Health Survey 2009-2010. Results: 25.7% of Pedagogy in Physical Education stu-dents present tabaquism. The university with the highest prevalence of tabaquism is the Univer-sidad Pedro de Valdivia (38.9%), while the Adventist University of Chile is the least prevalent (16.7%). Conclusions: The prevalence of tabaquism is equivalent to a quarter of the students of Physical Education in Chillán, which does not represent the national reality. The reasons why the prevalence of tabaquism is lower in this particular group have not been studied at this time, but it would be interesting to investigate them in future studies.Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de tabaquismo en los estudiantes de Pedagogía en Educa-ción Física de la ciudad de Chillán, Chile. Metodología: La investigación tiene un Diseño no experimental transeccional descriptivo. La Muestra corresponde a 272 estudiantes de Pedagogía en Educación Física, de las Universidad del Bío-Bío, Universidad Pedro de Valdivia y Universidad Adventista de Chile, divididos en 186 hombres y 85 mujeres, con edad media de inicio del taba-quismo correspondiente a los 17±10 años. El Instrumento de recolección de datos utilizado fue extraído del apartado de tabaquismo de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud 2009-2010. Resultados: El 25.7% de los estudiantes de Pedagogía en Educación Física presentan tabaquismo. La universidad con mayor prevalencia de tabaquismo es la Universidad Pedro de Valdivia (38.9%) mientras que la Universidad Adventista de Chile es la menos prevalente (16.7%). Conclusiones: La prevalencia de tabaquismo equivale a la cuarta parte de los estudiantes de Educación Física en Chillán, lo cual no representa la realidad nacional. Las razones por la cuales la prevalencia de tabaquismo es me-nor en este grupo particular no han sido estudiadas en esta oportunidad, pero sería interesante investigarlas en futuros estudios.
