In this essay-type paper, we intend to make a socioeducational reflection about the functions that the Secondary School teacher should assume because of institutional, political, ethic and episthemologic changing scenarios that the Chilean education will face by the end of the XXth and beginnings of the XXIst centuries. Outstanding among these, is the change of the written and spoken language, the basis of a prescriptive transmission of knowledge’s pedagogy, by art image-action language which is a continuous challenge for the construction of new educational meanings. If we aspire to be a modem, participant and democratic society, the Secondary School and its teachers cannot stay aside of that epistemological pedagogical change. It stems from here the importance of considering a socioeducational profile definition of the Chilean Secondary School teacher.Con este artículo-ensayo, queremos introducir una reflexión socioeducativa sobre las funciones que debiera asumir el profesor de Educación Media, frente al cambio de escenarios epistemológicos, éticos, políticos, institucionales que tendrá la educación chilena a fines del siglo XX e inicio del XXI.  Entre los escenarios destacables, está el cambio del lenguaje verbal escrito, sobre el cual se funda toda la pedagogía de la transmisión prescriptiva de conocimientos, por el lenguaje imagen-acción, que es un desafío continuo para la construcción de nuevos significados educacionales.  Si aspiramos a ser una sociedad democrática, participativa y moderna, la Escuela Media y sus profesores no pueden estar al margen de esa transformación epistemológica de la pedagogía.  De aquí la importancia de pensar en el reperfilamiento socioeducativo del Profesor de Educación Media en Chile.
