dc.description	This article describes Diego Portales’ activities in the educational field. First, there is a description of Diego Portales as a Director of the School of Santiago and his rivalry with the public High School of Chile. After, and guided by his “illustrated spirit”, Diego Portales showed his support to Claudio Gay. Education was seen as a concern of the leading groups, and this is shown in official documents and the press at that time. Finally, there is a description of the second Ministry of Portales and his thinking about education, the first Law of the Ministry, and Portales as the first Minister of Education in Chile.	en-US
dc.description	En estas páginas se describen las actividades de Diego Portales en el ámbito de la educación. Primero como sostenedor del Colegio de Santiago y su rivalidad con el Liceo de Chile. Rivalidad que no se asienta en aspectos educativos, sino netamente políticos. Luego, guiado por su “espíritu ilustrado”, se muestra su apoyo a Claudio Gay. La educación es preocupación de los grupos dirigentes, como se observa en documentos oficiales y de la prensa de la época. Finalmente se describe el segundo ministerio de Portales y su pensamiento sobre la educación, la primera ley de ministerio y a Portales como el primer ministro de educación del país.	es-ES
