| dc.description | El presente artículo discute, desde una perspectiva sociológica estructuralista, las características de un capítulo del conflicto ambiental regional: el uso para fines urbanos de las reservas hídricas existentes en el salar de Huasco, localizado en la zona andina de Pica, comuna de Iquique, Chile.
En relación a este tema se problematiza, con ejemplos empíricos, acerca de las tendencias de configuración espacial, incluidas las relaciones de poder que determinan su estructura y que reflejan la existencia de un proyecto regional dominante-urbano- moderno, impuesto sobre uno dominado-rural-tradicional.

The present article analyzes from a structuralist and sociological perspective, the characteristics of a chapter of the regional environmental conflict: the use of existing hydric reserves at the Huasco salt deposit situated in the Andes zone of Pica, for urban purposes.
In connection with this subject, several problems are discussed using empirical examples related to modern trends of spacial configurations, including power relationships that determine its structure and reflect the existente of a regional project predominanty urban and modern, imposed over one, which is predominantly rural and traditional.
