| dc.description | Bajo el formato de un ensayo, este trabajo tematiza las relaciones entre igualdad, identidad y desarrollo. Lo hace en referencia a los pueblos indígenas, un tipo de sujeto social especialmente activo en la arena política latinoamericana de las últimas décadas. El argumento se desarrolla tomando como ejemplo la etnía atacameña, cuya población se distribuye en espacios rurales y centros urbanos de la región de Antofagasta. En el análisis se resalta el carácter ambiguo y hasta contradictorio de las relaciones entre los conceptos analizados cuando se examina una situación étnica particular.

Relations among equality, identity and development are treated in this paper. Whit an essay format, Latinoamerican indigenous peoples are the general object of the present analysis. They are active social actors in regional and even national political arena dince the last three decades. In particular, the “atacameño” case of Antofagasta Region is examined. It is a good example for examining the ambiguities and contradictions among these social dimensions when they are considered in a specific cultural and historical context.
