| dc.description | Las relaciones simbólicas entre católicos y pentecostales es el tema del presente artículo. La presencia de la Madre y el Padre son figuras importantes en la vida cotidiana. La presencia de la madre (y la ausencia del padre) por parte de los católicos, y la certeza de contar con un padre -en los pentecostales- crea una dinámica sico-social y cultural que llama la atención.
El drama del mestizaje latinoamericano se expresa en el caso de los católicos, en una madre sobreprotectora y generosa, y en un padre ausente constantemente recriminado, pero querido. La Virgen versión andina de la Pachamama representa a la cultura popular. Los evangélicos, por su parte han abjurado de la Madre. La certeza de contar con el Padre, justo pero inflexible - castigador- representa la otra vertiente del mestizaje de América Latina, la religión del conquistador a través de Jesús. Los dos son sin embargo, figuras centrales en el imaginario cultural y religioso de hombres y mujeres.

The symbolic relationships between catholics and pentecostals is the key issue of this article. Father and Mother are important figures in daily life. The presence of Mother (and the absence of Father) for catholics, and the certainty of having a father for pentecostals creates a psycho-social and cultural dynamics worthy of attention.
The drama of the Latin American crossbreeding is seen in catholics through a generous and overprotective mother and a missing father, beloved but constantly reproached for. The virgin, the Andean version of Pachamama, represents folk culture. The evangelicals for their part have abjured the mother. The certainty of having the father, just but inflexible - punitive- represents the other source of Latin American crossbreeding, the conqueror’s religion throuhg Jesus. The two are, however, key figures in the cultural and religious imagery of men and women.
