dc.descriptionEl artículo reflexiona sobre la presencia de los misioneros franciscanos del Colegio de Chillán en la frontera sur del imperio español durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Más que reparar en la labor espiritual de los frailes misioneros, se detiene en lo político y económico. Los colegios de misiones formaron parte de la estrategia de conquista de la Corona española, por lo que debieron asumir un rol político, de mediadores en los conflictos que se suscitaban en la frontera. Entre los roles desempeñados por los misioneros estuvo el rescate de mujeres en la frontera, donde actuaron no sólo como ministros de fe, sino que también facilitando recursos económicos. Lo material también fue un tema que los frailes seráficos debieron enfrentar en medio de relaciones complejas, resolviendo no siempre con estricto apego a sus disposiciones y normativas. El escrito presenta dos documentos manuscritos, inéditos, existentes en el archivo franciscano de Santiago de Chile, que dan cuenta del rol político y de la preocupación por lo material de los misioneros de Chillán, en una zona de frontera hacia fines del siglo XVIII.es-ES
dc.descriptionThe article reflects on the presence of the Franciscan missionaries from the Colegio de Chillán on the southern border of the Spanish empire during the second half of the 18th century. Rather than paying attention to the spiritual work of the missionary friars, it stops at the political and economic levels. The colleges of missions were part of the strategy of conquest of the Spanish Crown, so they had to assume a political role, as mediators in the conflicts that arose on the border. Among the roles played by the missionaries was the rescue of women on the border, where they acted not only as ministers of faith, but also by providing financial resources. The material was also an issue that the seraphic friars had to face in the midst of complex relationships, not always resolving with strict adherence to its provisions and regulations. The writing presents two unpublished manuscript documents that exist in the Franciscan archive of Santiago de Chile, which account for the political role and concern for the material of the missionaries of Chillán, in a border area towards the end of the 18th century.en-US
