The objetive of this papaer is contribute to the democratisation of the school through the enlargement of the concept of diversity and its possibilities of application in the pedagogical relation. It presents a general overview of the historical chilean model of the school in order to examine its implications in concepts like diversity and identity that acting as determinant factors of the educational experience. This work includes reviews of previous experiencies of investigation and tehories of authors like P. Bourdieu and H. Maturana about different and legitamate, contstructions of the world and the way that they are integrated in the society and in the schcool. Finaly proposes an approach of the educational problem through the acceptation of the diversity as basis of the pedagogical relation and of the different learning situations.  Este artículo tiene como objetivo contribuir a la democratización de la escuela a través de la ampliación del concepto de diversidad y sus posibilidades de aplicación en la relación pedagógica. Se presenta un panorama general de la configuración histórica de la escuela chilena, para luego examinar sus implicancias en las concepciones sobre diversidad e identidad que actúan como factores determinantes de la experiencia educativa. En este mismo sentido, se revisan y contrastan experiencias de investigaciones previas y planteamientos de autores como Bourdieu y Maturana respecto al surgimiento de construcciones de mundo legítimamente diversas y los modos en que éstas se insertan en la sociedad y en la escuela, para, finalmente, proponer un abordaje de la problemática educativa centrado en la aceptación de la diversidad como eje estructurador de la relación pedagógica y de las distintas situaciones de aprendizaje.
