On the pedagogical use of sites of commemoration: a visit of high school students to the Parque por la Paz ex Villa Grimaldi (Santiago, Chile)

dc.descriptionDuring Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship the Parque por la Paz ex-Villa Grimaldi was the setting of abhorrent violations to human rights; it is today an emblematic site of memory in Chile. Pursuing the goal of a "pedagogy of memory" an ethnographically oriented research stirred the historical memory of high school students. By means of some guided visits of students to the Parque por la Paz, of a previous and subsequent action in the classroom, and of a somewhat spontaneous work of memory inside the students' families -collected in interviews to some of the students involved in the experience- the results achieved by the research proved the importance of the sites of commemoration in the teaching of national history and in the ethical formation in human rights. They also accounted for the existence of a fragmented historical memory in Chile and for the persistence of frames of memory associated to conflicting interpretations on the traumatic recent Chilean past.  en-US
dc.descriptionDurante la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet, el actual Parque por la Paz ex Villa Grimaldi fue el escenario de violaciones aberrantes a los derechos humanos; hoy es un sitio emblemático de la memoria. Una investigación de carácter etnográfico enmarcada en una "pedagogía de la memoria" interpeló la memoria histórica de estudiantes de enseñanza media. A partir de visitas guiadas al Parque por la Paz, de una acción previa y posterior a la visita en la sala de clases, y de un trabajo más o menos espontáneo de memoria en el contexto familiar de los estudiantes involucrados, recogido en entrevistas a una muestra significativa de los mismos, los resultados alcanzados por la investigación registraron la importancia de los lugares de memoria en la enseñanza de la historia de nuestro país y en la formación transversal en derechos humanos. Dieron cuenta, asimismo, de la fragmentación de la memoria en Chile y de la persistencia de marcos de memoria asociados a interpretaciones en conflicto sobre el reciente pasado traumático chileno.  es-ES
