The tourist activity has traditionally focused on the development and consolidation of destinations usually already developed; this research aims to identify the aptitude for nature tourism of a territory which has not yet been developed. The study comes from a vision of complex systems and with this purpose it defined the Mazahua Region as a complex system, which recognizes some events that transform this system. The analysis includes the physical characterization of natural elements such as soil type, climate, or infrastructure as roads, highways and towns, among others. Multicriteria-multiobjective methodology consisting of ranking of the attributes of the territory, in this case elements of the complex system, are weighted and represented spatially. The proposal leads to generate maps of the territory with ranges of aptitude, on four modalities selected from nature tourism.La actividad turística tradicionalmente se ha enfocado al desarrollo y consolidación de destinos, que por lo general ya se encuentran desarrollados, la presente investigación pretende identificar la aptitud para el turismo de naturaleza, de un territorio que aún no se ha desarrollado. El estudio se presenta a partir de una visión de sistemas complejos y con este fin, se define a la Región Mazahua como un Sistema Complejo, en el que se reconocen los procesos que transforman al sistema. El análisis comprende la caracterización de los componentes naturales como tipo de suelo, clima y vegetación; así como socioculturales como asentamientos humanos e infraestructura. Se aplicó la metodología multicriterio-multiobjetivo, consistente en jerarquizar los atributos del territorio, en este caso elementos del sistema complejo, que se ponderaron y representaron espacialmente. La propuesta resultante consistió en generar mapas del territorio con rangos de aptitud para las cuatro modalidades seleccionadas de turismo de naturaleza.
