dc.descriptionThis paper intends to show the real extent and distribution of the lateral palatal in Chile, since first hand information has been gathered through systematic in situ surveys carried out along Chile. The analysis of the corpus shows the reduction of the lateral palatal to a very low number places located on two areas; on the other hand, the central palatal has increased in all its levels of realization. The corpus shows the presence of six realizations of the /y/ in Chile, out of which four are the most relevant, not only because of their frequency of use, but also because its geographical distribution marks very well-defined dialect areas.en-US
dc.descriptionEste trabajo se propone precisar la magnitud y distribución real de la palatal lateral en Chile, ahora que se cuenta con datos obtenidos de primera mano por medio de encuestas sistemáticas in situ realizadas a lo largo de todo el territorio chileno. El análisis de los datos demuestra que la reducción de la palatal lateral a un número ínfimo de enclaves agrupados en torno a dos pequeñas áreas no hace sino corroborar las noticias que los estudiosos han dado desde fines del siglo XIX acerca del retroceso paulatino de este sonido y el avance paralelo de la palatal central en sus diversas realizaciones. Los materiales demuestran la existencia de seis realizaciones de la /y/ en Chile, de las cuales cuatro son las más importantes, no solo por su frecuencia de uso, sino también porque su distribución geográfica perfila áreas dialectales más o menos marcadas.es-ES
