| dc.description | Is there a possibility of an universal communication between all the human beings, as the XVIIIth century's rationalism as well as contemporary structuralism state, or on the contrary, the real translation and communication between cultures is an a priori impossible? We study some texts, from the XVIth to the XXth century, on which different authors take a position on that subject. We find that in all of them the possibility of translation is supported by an unprovable and extra-linguistic postulate: the unity of human kind. When this postulate is not present, even if one is endowed with the linguistic competence, translation is considered impossible or irrelevant. | en-US |
| dc.description | ¿Existe una posibilidad de comunicación universal entre los seres humanos, como quiere el ideal que va desde el racionalismo dieciochesco al estructuralismo lévistraussiano de hoy, o, por el contrario, la verdadera traducción y la comunicación entre las culturas es a priori imposible? Examinamos algunos textos legales y teóricos, desde el siglo XVI al XX, en los cuales se toma, de hecho, posición al respecto. En ellos constatamos que la posibilidad de traducir está garantizada por un postulado indemostrable, de naturaleza extralingüística: la unidad de la especie humana, y que cuando falta este postulado, aun teniendo competencia lingüística, se considera que la traducción es imposible o irrelevante. | es-ES |
