| dc.description | This paper explores how the proliferation of images and its marketing during late 19th and early 20th century gave place to a series of aesthetic products difficult to classify. These products competed with more traditional forms of culture. Half way between artistic practices and commercial practices, they merged elements of high and low culture, art and market, text and image. I will focus here on these peripheral formats of the cultural field that ended up challenging the way of conceiving aesthetic practices. I will study the commercial photo albums that circulated in Venezuela at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, especially the cultural narratives they built. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este trabajo explora cómo la masificación de la imagen y su comercialización a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX creó una serie de productos estéticos difíciles de clasificar que retaban las formas más tradicionales de la cultura. A medio camino ente las prácticas artísticas y las prácticas comerciales, estos productos fusionaron elementos de la alta y la baja cultura, del arte y el mercado, de la letra y la imagen. Nos centraremos aquí en estos formatos periféricos del campo cultural que terminaron poniendo a prueba la forma de concebir las prácticas estéticas. Dentro de estos géneros visuales menores estudiaremos los álbumes de fotografías publicitarias que circularon en la Venezuela de finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX y, especialmente, en los relatos culturales que ellos construyeron. | es-ES |
