Analysing Leon Trotsky’s History of the Russian Revolution one can study the relations between fiction and historical narration and understand that they are not contradictory, but they support each other. Paul Ricoeur’s theory of narrative agencement de faits and Alfred Hitchcock’s definition of suspense make possible a detailed analysis of how suspense enhances the historical argumentation in Trotsky’s work. The artificial aspect of a narrations does not come from the fact that it is fictional or historical, but from the fact that in narration the happening of events and time have a kind of succession that is as necessary as that one of natural laws, but their necessity and succession make place to discontinuity, condensation and gaps that do not exist in the world and that are natural in historical and fictional works.El análisis de la Historia de la Revolución Rusa de León Trotsky permite estudiar las relaciones entre la narración ficticia y la historia llegando a la conclusión de que no sólo no son incompatibles, sino que se apoyan. La teoría del reordenamiento (agencement) temporal de los hechos expuesta por Ricoeur y la definición que hace Alfred Hitchcock de la noción de suspenso permiten mostrar, acuciosamente, cómo el uso del suspenso fortalece el hilo argumental histórico de la obra de Trotsky. Lo artificial de la narración no proviene de que se trate de una obra ficticia o histórica, sino del hecho de que en la narración el acontecer y la temporalidad tienen una sucesión tan necesaria como la que se da en las leyes naturales, sólo que la necesidad y la sucesión de los acontecimientos narrativos no sólo permite, sino que exige una discontinuidad, condensación y vacíos que no se dan en el mundo de los hechos.
