| dc.description | The purpose of this study is to find out whether a specific kind of texts structuring is correlated with syntactic complexity. Sixty texts (argumentative, descriptive and narrative) written by linguistically competent adults were selected as a sample and analyzed in terms of Kellog Hunt's syntactic maturity indices validated for Spanish by Véliz (1998). Results reveal that discourse type is significantly associated to syntactic maturity. Argumentative texts show the highest values; descriptive papers exhibit intermediate values while narratives seem to be the least complex writings in terms of syntactic maturity. | en-US |
| dc.description | El propósito del estudio es determinar si el modo de organización del discurso afecta la complejidad sintáctica de textos escritos por adultos lingüísticamente competentes. Con este fin, se seleccionaron 60 textos (argumentativos, narrativos y descriptivos) y se analizan en su complejidad oracional en términos de los índices de madurez sintáctica de W. K. Hunt, validados para el español por Véliz (1998). Los resultados revelan que el modo del discurso incide significativamente en la complejidad sintáctica de los textos escritos. Según los parámetros usados, comparativamente, el discurso argumentativo presenta el grado más alto de complejidad; le sigue el descriptivo con un grado intermedio de complejidad y está, por último, el narrativo, cuya complejidad resulta significativamente menor. | es-ES |
