| dc.description | Elqui’s coves represent the evolution of the pre-Hispanic way of using the coastal edge. Consolidated with the 19th century industrialization, and undergoing an increasing urbanization process, they see their social development and cultural heritage under threat due to the extensive use of the coastal edge and relationships with larger urban areas. Due, however, to the complexity of the relations established and their temporary manifestations, territorial inheritances that are part of the coves’ heritage have been building up. This paper discusses the coves in the Elqui Province, probing into cumulative processes that shape the current heritage of their mode of occupation. The communities have shown great resilience, however, by integrating external impacts to the point that their identity cannot be understood without then. Notwithstanding, vulnerability to environmental impacts that have the potential of destroying territorial balance is apparent, making any adaptation impossible. | en-US |
| dc.description | Las caletas de Elqui constituyen la evolución de un modo de ocupación de origen prehispánico. Consolidadas con la industrialización decimonónica, y en un progresivo proceso de urbanización, ven amenazadas sus dinámicas sociales y patrimonio cultural por la ocupación extensiva del borde costero y las relaciones con núcleos urbanos mayores. Sin embargo, la complejidad de las relaciones establecidas y sus manifestaciones temporales han ido acumulando herencias territoriales que son parte del patrimonio de las caletas. En el presente artículo, se estudian las caletas de la provincia de Elqui, indagando en los procesos acumulativos configurantes del patrimonio actual de su modo de ocupación. Se evidencia una gran capacidad de adaptación en las comunidades, que han integrado los impactos externos a tal punto que su identidad no se entiende sin estos hechos, pero evidenciando una vulnerabilidad ante impactos ambientales con el potencial de destruir los equilibrios territoriales, haciendo imposible cualquier adaptación. | es-ES |
