The task of revitalizing the Mapuzugun is becoming increasingly urgent. In a short period, not only the training of new Mapuzugun speakers is required on a large scale, but also well trained Mapuzugun-speaking teachers, who are able to teach Mapuzugun as a second language. This article is about the experiences gained in the classroom with educational agents, discovering the obstacles of teaching and how the communicative approach constitutes a true and alternative methodology for teaching Mapuzugun. This approach considers the learning processes of the students, using and updating the ancestral contents of the Mapuche society, concentrating on language teaching, understanding that this is the base for any sociocultural expression. The article also names existing tools to be used to improve language teaching, appealing to a real change in perspective towards language teaching.

| dc.description | La tarea de revitalizar el mapuzugun se hace cada día más urgente. En un periodo corto no solamente se requiere la formación de nuevos hablantes a grande escala, sino también a profesores hablantes del mapuzugun con una formación que les habilite enseñar la lengua como un segundo idioma. En este artículo se muestra, a través de la propia experiencia adquirida en el aula con agentes educativos, los obstáculos en la enseñanza y la manera como el enfoque comunicativo constituye una verdadera metodología alternativa para la enseñanza del idioma mapuche, respetando procesos de aprendizaje de los estudiantes, usando y poniendo en un contexto actual los antiguos contenidos de la sociedad mapuche, concentrándose en la enseñanza del idioma, entendiendo que ésta es la base para cualquier expresión sociocultural. Además nombra herramientas ya existentes a usar para mejorar la enseñanza del idioma, apelando a un verdadero cambio en la perspectiva hacia la enseñanza de un idioma.
