The Americanist thought seeks a historical belonging to the occidental culture and a statute before "the modern". In its attempt, it has given rise to an "informal", "eccentric", philosophy, that takes from an aesthetic epistemology a great deal of its argumentative tools. From an aesthetics of the Enlightenment, developed in Europe in the XVIII century, the thought about "the American" has built a philosophy based on "the dark": a deep attempt of decolonization; a statement of a way of knowledge that seems to be unable to capture its object without appealing to an expression parallel to itself, to a para-knowledge of knowledge. In front of the political utopia requirements, the American man recovers a cultural horno aestheticus. The aesthetic utopia and the political utopia participate together building a conception of identity.El pensamiento americanista busca una pertenencia histórica a la occidentalidad y un estatuto ante "lo moderno" En su tentativa ha dado lugar a una filosofía "informal", "excéntrica", que toma de una epistemología estética gran parte de sus útiles argumentales. A partir de una estética de las luces —formulada en la Europa del siglo XVIII—, el pensamiento sobre "lo americano" ha construido una filosofía de lo oscuro: tentativa profunda de descolonización; enunciación de un modo de conocimiento que parece incapaz de aprehender su objeto sin recurrir a una expresión paralela a sí misma, a un para-conocimiento del conocimiento. Ante las exigencias de la utopía política, el hombre americano reivindica un horno aestheticus cultural. Utopía estética y utopía política participan juntas en la construcción de un imaginario de la identidad.
