This study is an attempt to offer a deeper insight of popular culture, pointing to the presence of ethical values in it and their importance in the behaviour of the community. It stresses that these ethical values take material form in a work of art: the folk tale. Thus, this study aims at the detection and decodification of the aesthetic component of the expressive materials in four Chilean folk tales. The world picture present in popular culture contains an important implicit ethical component wich becomes explicit in the folk tales when analised from an aesthetic - hermeneutic point of view. Este ensayo busca hacer un aporte al conocimiento de la cultura tradicional, reparando en la presencia de los valores éticos y su proyección en el comportamiento de la comunidad. Destaca que esta presencia ética está encarnada en una creación artística -el cuento-, por lo cual el estudio busca detectar y decodificar el coeficiente estético de los materiales expresivos de cuatro cuentos folklóricos chilenos. La cosmovisión de la cultura tradicional tiene un componente ético implícito muy importante. Esto se hace explícito en estos cuentos, analizados desde una perspectiva estética hermenéutica.
