This article undertakes the rescue of one of the most representative Instruments of the Chilean musical tradition: el guitarrón (the large guitar). This instrument, unique in America and the world, has accompanied the popular poets through many generations. The author revises the national history providing also a panoramic view of the popular poetry development. All this with the purpose of revaluing the traditions and promoting the knowledge of Popular Art.Este artículo emprende el rescate de uno de los instrumentos más representativos de la tradición musical chilena, el guitarrón. Este instrumento, único en América y el mundo, ha acompañado por muchas generaciones a los poetas populares. El autor recorre la historia nacional entregando también una panorámica del desarrollo de la poesía popular. Todo esto con el objetivo de revalorizar las tradiciones y de promover el conocimiento del arte popular.
