En este artículo se presentan y discuten los resultados de una investigación cualitativa acerca del efecto de diferentes tipos de ayuda psicológica. En una primera parte, se traza el marco general en el cual se inserta el estudio, la "investigación en psicoterapia". Se analizan brevemente algunos problemas a los que éste se ha visto enfrentada, se discute la hipótesis de los "factores inespecíficos", y se señalan algunas ventajas que podría ofrecer la utilización de métodos cualitativos.En la segunda parte, se presenta la metodología cualitativa aplicada, esto es, los procedimientos generales de la "grounded theory" de Glaser & Strauss, a los que se hará referencia posteriormente en la descripción de los procedimientos específicos del estudio.La tercera parte contiene los resultados de la investigación, los cuales son discutidos en su relación con las hipótesis sobre los "factores inespecíficos" presentadas en la primera parte. La evidencia más general del estudio señala que los cambios terapeúticos implican la transformación de las "Teorías Subjetivas" del paciente, en especial, de aquellas que éste formula respecto de sí mismo.  El artículo finaliza con una reflexión entorno al valor terapéutico que se podría asignar al desarrollo de "Teorías Subjetivas".This paper shows and discusses the findings of an empirical, cualitative study about the effects of different forms of psychotherapy. In the first part we find the general frame of the area to which this study belongs, i.e. the “Psychotherapy Research”. Some problems, the Psychotherapy Research has to deal with, are analysed, and the hypothesis about “unspecific factors” are discussed. Finally this part presents possible advantages associated with the utilization of qualitative methods. Part two contains the methodology applied in the study, that is, the general procedures of the “grounded theory” methodology of Glaser & Strauss. The specific procedures presented later refer to them.In the third part of the paper we find the results of the empirical study. Their relation to the hypothesis of “unspecific factors” presented in the first part is herein discussed. The most general evidence which this study shows, it’s the fact, that the therapeutic change involves the transformation of the clients “Subjective Theories”, especially of those they have about themselves. The paper ends with a discussion about the possible therapeutic value of the development of “Subjective Theories”.
