dc.description	En el presente trabajo revisamos desde el punto de vista metodológico y empírico el estado actual de la psicología experimental en torno al inconsciente cognitivo. En él documentamos la capacidad del sistema cognitivo humano de procesar bastante más información que aquella que acede a la conciencia. Gracias a la reinterpretación de algunos síndromes neuropsicológicos en los que se observa cierta disociación mental y a los datos cualitativos aportados recientemente por el uso de refinados métodos de investigación experimental, hoy día se puede hablar de percepción, memoría y aprendizaje inconscientes. Todo ello nos permite esbozar una interpretación de la mente humana en términos de su capacidad de procesamiento inconsciente de información y de las funciones y naturaleza de la conciencia, así como de las relaciones entre estos dos niveles de actividad mental. Mientras la conciencia funcionaría como un controlador central de propósito general y capacidad severamente limitada, encargado de construir las representaciones subjetivas integradas a partir de los datos aportados por diferentes módulos especializados en el procesamiento de información de dominio específico, éstos operan de forma automática, pudiendo influir en la conducta sin necesidadde transferir al controlador el producto de su trabajo. Conforman lo que podríamos denominar la ´mente oculta´.	es-ES
dc.description	In the present work we review, from a methodological and empirical perspective, the current state of experimental psychology with regard to the cognitive unconscious. We report on the cpapcity of the human cognitive system to process considerably more information than that which reaches consciousness. Thanks to the reinterpretation of some neuropsychological syndromes in which certain mental dissociation is observed, and to qualitative data recently provided by sophisticated experimental research methods, we can speak today of unconscious perception, memory and learning. All of this permits us to sketch an interpretation of the human mind in terms of its unconscious information processing capacity, of the functions, and nature of consciousness, and of the relationships between these two levels of mental activity. Whilst consciousness would function as a general purpose central controller with severely limited capacity, responsible for constructing subjective representations from the data provided by different specialized modules whose task is the processing of domain-specific information, these modules would operate in an automatic way, being capable of influencing behavior without the need to transfer the product of their work to the controller. They would constitute what we might call “the hidden mind”.	en-US
