Abstract
An experiment with 105 kindergarten children was conducted to verify if the implicit learning principles are valid in the context of natural grammar and effectively taught using a videogame. In a specially designed videogame, a visual strategy was applied in experimental conditions, based on the analogies of Messer’s Implicit Phonological Awareness Paradigm (1967, in Lance, Swanson & Peterson, 1997) and the procedural structure of Reber’s Artificial Grammar Paradigm (1989). The results show that the visual strategy was ineffective and interfered with the learning process of the presented grammatical structure. It is hypothesized that this was due to the fact that preschoolers need initial training in reading that combines and associates visual presentation of letters along with their auditory counterpart. ON the other hand, the use of the videogame increased children’s motivation and interest.
