In the school context, messages that have a powerful influence in the construction of student’s identity and life projects, are transmitted. In general, these messages are part of the hidden curriculum, situation that makes them difficult to identify and thus, to modify. This paper presents and analysis about the impact that coeducational models and those segregated by sex, have on what students learn about their gender identity. The authors conclude that, independently of the modality, what is necessary is to make visible the implicit gender education in the school context, so that parents and teachers take conscience about the strenghs and weaknesses present in each gender, and become more effective in the planification of educational strategies.El contexto escolar constituye un espacio en el cual se transmiten mensajes que influyeb poderosamente en la construcción que alumnos y alumnas hacen de su identidad personal y de sus proyectos de vida. Generalmente estos mensajes forman parte del curriculum oculto, lo que hacen muy difícil su detección y por ende, su modificación. Este artículo presenta una reflexión acerca del impacto que tienen los modelos coeducacionales y segregados por sexo, sobre los aprendizajes que hacen los jóvenes en relación a su identidad de género. Se concluye que, independientemente de la modalidad educativa, lo importante es visibilizar la temática del género en el contexto escolar, de modo que padres y profesores tomen conciencia de las fortalezas y debilidades presentes en cada género para poder así planificar en forma más eficiente las estrategias educacionales.
