| dc.description | A test for the evaluation of innumeracy in adults is presented. The test is based on an operation definition of innumeracy which was developed, along the lines proposed by Reeves (1994), from an analysis of the basic goals and minimal content requirements of elementary and secondary mathematics established by the Chilean Ministry of Education. The test yields an innumeracy profile highlighting areas of deficiency in the person and/or group evaluated, and thereby facilitates the design of appropriate remedial programs. Surprisingly negative results obtained when the test was administered to a group of university students, in the course of its development, suggest that there is significant deficiency in adult numeracy in Chile. | en-US |

Se base en una definición operacional del concepto, proveniente del análisis de los objetivos fundamentales y contenidos mínimos obligatorios para la educación básica y media chilena desde la perspectiva de las áreas de innumeralismo propuesta por Reeves (1994). La prueba entrega un perfil de innumeralismo que indica las áreas deficitarias de la persona y/o grupo; eso permite diseñar acciones remediales. El análisis de los resultados obtenidos por estudiantes universitarios lleva a la discusión sobre la prevalencia del innumeralismo en la sociedad chilena. | es-ES |
