dc.description	The aim of this study was to analyze the association between maternal mentalization and sensitivity in the interaction of mothers from Metropolitan Region of Chile with their one-year-old children and its implication for infants' social-emotional development (SED), in a nonprobability purposive sample of 105 mothers from different socioeconomic status (SES) groups and their children who attended public or private daycares. The instruments used were the Adult Sensitivity Scale (E.S.A.), the Significant Adult's Mentalization Assessment and the social-emotional development scale of the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-Third Edition. Via correlational and comparative analyses of means and frequencies (Student's t and 2), an association was observed between maternal sensitivity and mentalization, as well as between maternal sensitivity and child SED, but no child SED-mentalization link was found. SES has an effect on the quality of maternal sensitivity, mentalization and SED level; however, when it is controlled for, the relation between maternal sensitivity and infant SED disappears. The implications of incorporating early interventions in these maternal competences are discussed.	en-US
dc.description	El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la relación entre la mentalización y sensibilidad materna en la interacción de madres de la Región Metropolitana de Chile con sus hijos de un año de edad y su implicancia en el desarrollo socioemocional (DSE) infantil en una muestra no probabilística intencionada de 105 madres de distinto nivel socioeconómico (NSE) y sus hijos/as que asistían a salas cuna públicas o privadas. Los instrumentos utilizados fueron la Escala de Sensibilidad del Adulto (E.S.A.), Evaluación de la Mentalización del Adulto Significativo y la escala de desarrollo socioemocional de la Escala de Desarrollo Infantil de Bayley-III. Mediante análisis correlacionales y comparativos de medias y frecuencias (t de Student y 2), se observó una correlación entre mentalización y sensibilidad materna y entre esta y el DSE del niño; no así con la mentalización. El NSE tiene implicancia en la calidad de la sensibilidad materna, mentalización y el nivel del DSE y, al ser controlado, desaparece la relación entre sensibilidad materna y DSE infantil. Se discuten las implicancias de incorporar intervenciones tempranas en estas competencias maternas.	es-ES
