Isurus oxyrinchus is a species mostly caught on pelagic longline fisheries. In this study, the occurrence of I. oxyrinchus pregnant female caught to northwest of Cuba is reported; we describe for the first time the development stage of the embryos for this region and compare its development phase with previous surveys carried out in other regions. The adult specimen measured 365 cm TL and had 12 embryos. Regarding the whole litter only a male of 39.3 cm (TL) and a female of 39.2 cm (TL) could be examined. The most evident feature about the embryos was the development of a big abdomen full of small follicles with yolk, corresponding to the oophagic phase. This provides enough energy for their growth and development during the gestation period. This current paper is the first record about second phase or half-term litter of embryonic development for I. oxyrinchus in Cuban waters and it complements the information concerning the knowledge of the reproductive biology of this species.Isurus oxyrinchus constituye una de las especies mayormente capturadas en pesquerías palangreras pelágicas. En este estudio se reporta la ocurrencia de una hembra preñada de I. oxyrinchus capturada al noroeste de Cuba; se describe por vez primera el estadio de desarrollo de los embriones para esta región y se compara su fase de desarrollo con reportes previos realizados en otras regiones. El espécimen adulto midió 365 cm LT y presentaba 12 embriones. De la camada, solo un macho de 39,3 cm (LT) y una hembra de 39,2 cm (LT) se lograron examinar detalladamente. La característica más evidente en los embriones fue el desarrollo de un enorme abdomen lleno de pequeños folículos con vitelo, correspondiente a la fase oofágica. Esto provee la energía necesaria para su crecimiento y desarrollo durante el período de gestación. El presente reporte constituye el primer registro de la segunda fase o camada de término medio del desarrollo embrionario de I. oxyrinchus en aguas cubanas y complementa la información sobre el conocimiento de la biología reproductiva de esta especie.
