dc.description	The women who supported the Second Spanish Republic were sociallyconstructed, even before the onset of the Civil War, either as a silenced myth or as a vociferous ideal. In exile, in prison, and in the streets, women who had been identified as reds during the Civil War, were subject to all kinds of oblivion and infamy in the time of Franco’s Spain. After the dictator’s death, these women were notoriously remembered and idealized through their own writing or by the work of scholars. Ishall focus on testimonial narratives but will also briefly discuss other types of texts (poetry, novel, letters, and films) that complement the social construction of the identity of the Republican woman. The voices of this feminine silence are to be found somewhere between the veiled or open demonizing and the quasi-hagiography (which is found only in small sectors of society or from exiles).	en-US
dc.description	Las mujeres que apoyaron a la Segunda República Española se construyeron, aun antes de la Guerra Civil, o como un mito silenciado o como un ideal a voces. En el exilio, en las cárceles y en las calles, las mujeres identificadas como rojas a partir de la Guerra Civil pasaron por todas las tonalidades del olvido y de la infamia y, después de la muerte de Franco, por las de la memoria y las de la idealización, en suspropias palabras o en las ajenas. Me enfocaré prioritariamente en la narración testimonial, pero también discutiré brevemente otras formas de textualidad (poesía, novela, epístola, cinematografía) que complementan la construcción de la identidad de la mujer republicana. Entre la demonización velada o manifiesta y la cuasi-hagiografía posterior —ésta sólo en sectores reducidos de la población o desde el exilio— se encuentran las voces de este silencio femenino.	es-ES
