The article presents, analyzes and discusses the phenomena of abuse and learned helplessness circle found present during the investigation "Impact evaluation of a creativity development strategy in three high school units" (FONDECYT NO 1980610). The phenomena relate to a chain of abuses which involves different levels of the educational system, generating violence and frustration which in turn feeds onto yet another circle present, which foments the leaming of helplessness. Following a brief synthesis of the research context, the article presents different theoretical frameworks that bring perspectives for the comprehension of violence/abuse and helplessness, which is thereafter described with examples of talk and episodes extracted from the researchers fieldnotes. One interpretative analysis is included, pairing characteristics of the educational organizations researched with variables found in an instrument that identifies potential abusive family   organizations.En el marco de la investigación «Estudio de impacto de una estrategia para el desarrollo de la creatividad en tres unidades educativas de enseñanza media» (FONDECYT NO 1980610) surge como tema emergente una cadena de malos tratos que implica a los distintos niveles del sistema educativo, engendrando violencia y frustración que a su vez alimenta 0ü'0 circulo también presente, que fomenta el aprendizaje de la desesperanza. El artículo presenta, analiza y discute el fenómeno del círculo del maltrato y el de la desesperanza aprendida. Luego de una breve síntesis del contexto investigativo, el articulo expone diversos marcos teóricos que otorgan perspectivas para la comprensión de la violencia/maltrato y la desesperanza, y describe el fenómeno tal como se observó en esta investigación, con ejemplos de frases y episodios extraídos de las notas de campo de los investigadores. Posteriormente, se incluye uno de los análisis interpretativos hechos, que relaciona características de las organizaciones educativas investigadas, con las variables que toma en cuenta un instrumento para identificar potenciales organizaciones familiares maltratadoras.
