| dc.description | The article presents a definition of autism based on L. Kanner's concepts, including the original description's central components. From this starting point, an analysis is made of the main studies and authors that have contributed to the understanding of autism, especially Baron-Cohen's (1995) and Frith's (1991) approaches, which state that this disorder's main component would be an alteration of the cognitive capability of attributing mind and inferring emotional states in others. In this context becomes relevant the explanation provided by Rivière of the dimensions comprising the autistic spectrum. Some current psychological explanations of autism are also reviewed. These explanations include: those referring to alterations of intersubjetivity processes and abilities such as joint attention; the contributions of Wing and Gould, who state it is a syndrome without a common cause, associated to diverse intellectual levels, which is not a unique category but an spectrum with varied dimensions; and a theory that proposes it is due to difficulties in executive functions, which are mediated by the frontal lobes, and have the function of regulating social behavior, emotional relations, and social discourse. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este artículo plantea una definición del autismo a partir de los conceptos de L. Kanner rescatando de la descripción original los elementos centrales. A partir de allí se hace un análisis de las principales investigaciones y autores que han aportado a la comprensión del autismo, especialmente las posturas de Baron-Cohen (1995) y Frith (1991), que sostienen que el componente más importante de este trastorno estaría dado por la alteración de la capacidad cognitiva de atribuir mente e inferir los estados emocionales de las personas. En esta línea se hacen relevantes las explicaciones aportadas por Riviére a las dimensioens que componen el espectro autista. Se revisan algunas de las explicaciones psicológicas actuales de la comprensión del autismo. Se incluyen las explicaciones que sostienen que existirían alteraciones en los procesos de intersubjectividad y de habilidades como la atención conjunta; los aportes de Wing y Gould que plantean que es un síndrome sin una causa común y que se asocia a diversos niveles intelectuales, que no es una categoría única sino un espectro con dimensiones variadas; así mismo se expone la teoría que la alteración se debería a dificultades en las funciones ejecutivas, las que están mediadas por los lóbulos frontales y que tienen por función regular la conducta social, las relaciones emocionales y el discurso social. | es-ES |
